In collaboration with the City of Porto, Portugal, we developed an innovative AI-driven crop health management mobile app and custom-designed hardware. This solution aims to help small-scale farmers and community gardeners in Porto to adapt their farming practices to the effects of climate change to increase crop resilience and yields and ensure sustainable food security for local agricultural communities. The solution is initially being piloted in the rural communities of Campanhã, Porto.
The project is a part of CommuniCity and our team will be collaborating closely with Porto Digital and Domus Social, two key municipal organizations in Porto, supporting this solution's implementation and community adoption.
- Design and engineer an AI-powered mobile application for sustainable crop health management.
- Enable monitoring of key environmental variables such as temperature, humidity, soil quality, and climate conditions through precision sensors.
- Generate personalised, organic-farming-aligned intelligent recommendations to help farmers adapt to climate change.
We built Clamigo, an integrated smart farming solution combining a mobile application powered by AI with an IoT device, connected to a sensor that measures various attributes to assess key environmental data, such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and air quality. These sensors are lightweight, energy-efficient, and optimized for rural deployment, making them suitable for small plots and community gardens.
The collected data is transmitted to the Clamigo mobile app, where AI models analyze the information to generate tailored recommendations. These suggestions are rooted in sustainable, organic farming principles and guide farmers on when to water, how to manage pests, and what preventive actions to take based on forecasted conditions. The app features a simple, intuitive interface designed for users with limited technical backgrounds, ensuring accessibility and adoption.
