Rootcode Foundation’s First-Ever Bootcamp Initiative

We recently completed our first-ever Rootcode Foundation Bootcamp at Godagama Anagarika Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Matara. The Bootcamp is a new initiative designed to help us reach even more underprivileged schools around Sri Lanka, especially those in rural areas that we cannot easily support through our year-long school adoption model. Instead of spreading activities throughout the year, the Bootcamp brings our efforts into one high-impact weekend, allowing our Rootcoders to travel to these communities and create meaningful change in just a few days.

Our Rootcoders spent an entire weekend working closely with the students and teachers. They led interactive workshops, hands-on technology sessions, and simple but meaningful activities designed to introduce students to the world of technology education in a fun and approachable way.

The highlight of the visit was the opening of a brand new computer lab, built by our Rootcoders themselves, who cleaned, painted, renovated, and set up all the equipment through their own voluntary effort. This new lab is the fourth one built through Rootcode Foundation, and it will serve as a much-needed learning hub for the school for years to come. In addition, we also rolled out our “Smart School” software to help the school digitize administrative tasks and make day-to-day operations more efficient.

On top of everything, our Bootcamp programme helped spark enthusiasm and curiosity among the students, many of whom had limited prior exposure to technology. The Rootcode Foundation Bootcamp represents our commitment to taking technology education to the places where it is needed most. This is only the beginning, and we look forward to organizing more Bootcamps across the country, empowering even more children, and helping them build brighter futures through technology education.
