We are excited to announce that we have expanded our educational outreach with the adoption of Mawathgama Kanishta Vidyalaya, marking the official launch of our second project on the 3rd of February 2024. This initiative follows the resounding success of our project last year, which saw transformative educational support provided to another school, positively impacting the lives of its students. The inauguration ceremony took place at the school premises along with the students, parents, and teachers.

Rootcode Foundation is our impact initiative, and we are on a mission to empower underprivileged students' lives with technology education. We launched Rootcode Foundation back in 2022, and our first initiative took its first steps with the selection of Sri Siddhartha Kanishta Vidyalaya in Horana as the inaugural school for the project. What happens when we adopt a school?

We know that real change takes time, so we commit one whole year to a school and its children, holding half-day training every two weeks to teach them many areas of technology. Our Rootcoders visit the school bi-weekly to teach these students learn technology in an effective and enjoyable way. Apart from teaching, we support the enhancement of IT infrastructure by building a computer lab and providing necessary facilities. In addition to this, we acknowledge and encourage academic excellence among deserving students by offering scholarships.

We have also published our Rootcode Foundation Annual Report, which includes about execution and implementation of our impact initiative over a year. Here you can find detailed information on project goals, implementation, course details, budgeting, and sustainability plans.

Our Technical Lead, Krishan Samarawickarama, is leading Rootcode Foundation for this year as the president. "Our commitment to expanding the program's reach has been strengthened after seeing its positive impact on students' confidence and aspirations. The adoption of Mawathgama Kanishta Vidyalaya represents another step towards our goal of making technology education accessible to all," mentioned our Foundation President, Krishan Samarawickrama.

Our approach goes beyond traditional classroom teaching; it's about creating an environment where students can interact with technology meaningfully, discover their potential, and gain the skills necessary for success in the digital age.

With over 100 volunteers from our team at Rootcode, we are looking forward to teaching these students technology and helping them grow. In addition to teaching, we will also provide scholarships and build sustainable IT infrastructure, including computer labs, to ensure long-term benefits for the school.

As we embark on this new project, our anticipation is high for replicating and surpassing last year's success. "Our aim is not just to teach technology but to inspire change and foster a generation that is capable, confident, and ready to contribute to the world. We're looking forward to making an even bigger impact this year." Mangala Perera, our COO added.
